• Leeds-based Amberley Travel, which was banned from operating buses on local services in September, is back on the road following the implementation of new vehicle inspection arrangements.
The North Eastern Traffic Commissioner penalised Amberley for 12-months with the ban following an adverse report from traffic examiners. Amberley lodged an appeal with the transport tribunal, which was due to be heard in January and would have been the first case of a PSV operator appealing against a ban from a Commissioner.
But an agreement was reached, under which the company fleet will be inspected regularly by inspectors from the Freight Transport Association. The PTA, which already makes checks on behalf of the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, will look at Amberley's buses every four weeks and its coaches every six weeks.
Maintenance will still be handled by Amberley's fitters but there is now a service agreement with a local garage. The company is also searching for alternative facilities for its two double-deckers.
During the two months that the local ban was in force Amberley continued to operate on a reduced scale, primarily on contracts and private hire.
