• Railfreight Distribution has announced plans for a Spring launch of the UK's first highspeed intermodal freight service devoted to European swapbodies.

The service will operate between Harwich Containerport, north-west England and Scotland, and is aimed at road hauliers operating swap bodies on the Continent.

Ian Brown, Railfreight Distribution's managing director, claims he will offer 41/2-hour journey times to Manchester and Liverpool from Harwich, and eight hours to Glasgow.

The company has yet to decide upon a swap body terminal in the north-west but looks likely to choose its Gushetsfaulds terminal in Glasgow. The popular C22-gauge swap body will be used on the service.
