• MICHELIN Technical Department has issued an updated guide to regrooving and repattenaing.
Regrooving, it explains, involves cutting into the base rubber while the patterning is the removal of tie bars, most commonly carried out on deep treaded tyres designed for offroad use.
Legal and technical requirements are discussed briefly and the guide goes on to explain the significance of regroove depth indicators (RDI) which Michelin has introduced in the base of the tread on most of its radial tyres.
A regrooving index simplifies the identification of the tyre and its specific regroove depth.
Recommended Regrooving and Repatterning is available by circling Turbo 51.
