Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• THOUSANDS of garages could be in for a shock next year when they discover that their burglar alarm is no longer acceptable to the local police, according to security specialist Securicor Granley.

A policy document prepared by the Association of Chief Police Officers, to be implemented in 1990, states that police forces will not accept calls from burglar alarm systems that fail to satisfy standards set down by the British Standards Institution.

A Securicor Granley survey shows that over 19 out of every 20 police call-outs to burglar alarms were false. And, at a conference in September, the British Security Industry Association said this is costing over £125 million a year in wasted police time and call-outs of the keyholders.
