LEADERS of 100,000 busmen in I-1 private companies presented a threepoint claim for better conditions at a meeting of the National Council for the Omnibus Industry in London last week.
Their three-point claim, which has already been submitted in writing, was for industrial pensions, an extra week's holiday and a seven-hour guaranteed day instead of the present 6 hours 40 minutes.
After a short adjournment the employers' side of the Council promised to consider the submissions and to give their reply at a further meeting.
A parallel claim on behalf of 70,000 men and women in municipal undertakings is to be argued next Thursday.
The third group of busmen—those working in London—are almost ready to -submit their claim to the L.T.E. They are asking for a " substantial " increase in pay as well as a reduction of the working fortnight from 84 hours to 80 hours.
Having been approved by a delegate conference from all the garages, it awaited only the formal endorsement of the Union's executive council this week.
