Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Middlesbrough has amalgamated its Fire Brigade and Hackney Carriage Committees.

The Greenock Brigade has not yet placed its order for a motor fire-engine, but we do not think there will be much more delay.

Wallington and Beddington Parish Councils are now combining to buy a motor hose-cart, whilst Finchley U.D.C. will purchase another motor fire-engine.

The L.C.C. is about to erect an up-to-date station adjoining the tramway depot in Norwood Road, West Norwood, S.E., at an estimated cost of £13,000. Motor equipment alone will be installed.

Should Be an Opening Here For a Motor.

The inhabitants of the village of Westbourne, on the Hants. and Sussex border, have recently been existing practically in a state of terror, owing to a series of no fewer than seven fires. The last outbreak was two weeks ago. A straw rick, in the village, suddenly burst into flame ; near it, a. cloth, soaked in paraffin, was discovered. The Westbourne brigade was promptly on the scene, but, after about an hour's hard work, the manual-engine, which, it is averred, is about 100 years old, broke down. The Ernsworth (Hants.) brigade was then telephoned for, and its speedy arrival, with a powerful Shand-Mason steamer, was a smart piece of work. Why no self-propelled plant for the district?

Dennis Pumping Sets.

The stationary pumping plant, for the Burmalt Oil Co., one of the three sets of which was illustrated by us a week ago, was ordered from Dennis Bros., Ltd., of Guildford, through Rennie and Prosser, Ltd., of Glasgow.

A Berlin Suburb's Big Savings.

According to the annual report of the Charlottenburg (Berlin) brigade, the three eleetromobiles at the Sudwaelie (south station) went out 4,136 times during the twelvemonth, and only on eleven occasions did defects show themselves. Altogether, they covered 6,445 kilometres (4,02B miles) at a cost or 15.85 pfennigs (1.981d.) per travelled kilometre (1,093 yds.), with current at 10 pfennigs (114d.) per kilowatt-hour. It is of special interest to note that as much as 23,290 marks (L1,664) has been saved in three years and a half through the substitution of mechanical propulsion for horsed vehicles.

"An Automobile Fire-engine or— We Resign!"

Our Berlin Correspondent writes : "Failing to get an automobile fire-engine after repeated petitions, the Potsdam Volunteer Fire Brigade announced its fixed intention to dissolve. With the laudable object of giving the municipality time Lo concert, precautionary measures, or conic to their senses, the men chose the dissolution for midnight of 30th November. The brigade has been in existence for 27 years, and has done splendid work for the town. The authorities, I hope, will have concluded in good time that, in resisting reasonable demands for up-to-date rolling stock, they have 'made themselves and mighty Potsdam silly.' I strongly recommend the action of the Potsdamers to brigades at home which may be handicapped by inadequate anparatus in consequence of the short-sightedness of authorities."
