Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Christian Salvesen this week (Monday) made a revised pay offer to nearly 50 drivers who voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action after being told that this year's 3% pay increase would have to be self-financing.

A fresh ballot will be conducted among employees at the multi-user cold storage depot in Easton, Lincolnshire, over the next fortnight.

Geoff Espin, Transport & General Workers Union (T&G) regional organiser, says the 55 drivers and fitters were originally expected to forego their meal allowance, accept reduced holiday pay and work more weekends to reduce the need for agency and subcontracted drivers.

He says: "The first offer was totally self-financing, and this one is partly selffinancing."

Espin adds that 85% voted in favour of strike action and 96% in favour of action short of a strike.

A spokeswoman for Salvesen says: "The company is keen to continue the dialogue with employees and representatives at the Easton depot to find an acceptable solution for all sides."
