• The Retail Motor Industry Federation has welcomed the Government's assurance that an announcement will be made "shortly" on the future of the 1 August registration plate changes.
It wants a twice-yearly plate change every March and September and has put forward a joint proposal with the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders and the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association. "..A The Ford Monde° estate pictured below was one of Britain's first R-registration casualties before it had put a tyre on the tarmac. It rolled backwards when the transporter it was car ried on was involved in an accident on the M5 at Bristol. Fire crews had to call in a crane to lift it free.
