Unit-load vehicles will be the centre ieces on the Merriworth (Engineering) Ltd tand at Earls Court in September. The ompany will show one of its well-known latform skeletal trailers along with a newly troduced skeletal unit featuring threadedhrough twistlock bolsters. The new skeletal ,vill be a 23ft-long model designed for the :arriage of 20ft containers and, like its )ounterpart, the platform skeletal, will be )1ated for 27 tons gross trailer weight. VIerriworth will also be showing unitized 'tinning gears and TIR bodied semi-trailers.
Another new semi-trailer will be shown )n the stand of B. Dixon-Bate Ltd, of
Chester. This will be a Unibox unit 2 lft-long with independent suspension and a light-alloy body equipped with the firm's Shorfast cargo control system. It will have roller shutters at the rear and in both sides.
A built-in weighing device utilizing axle-deflection measured through a strain gauge will be shown for the first time by Smiths Industries Ltd. The system incorporates one measuring device for each axle on the vehicle but recorded results are registered on a common moving-coil meter. Accuracy to within 6 per cent plus or minus is claimed for the system.
