Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A Hampshire reader is considering buying a tipper and starting up in haulage on his own account and asks for preliminary advice, including the initial outlay involved in purchasing such a vehicle.

As reported in The Commercial Motor recently, operation in the tipper field is proving very competitive and it is more than ever necessary for intending entrants into such work to be assured of a remunerative contract before being involved in capital outlay.

Assuming a new tipper was purchased, typical examples of initial outlay involved for a quantity produced vehicle with a diesel engine would be approximately as follows: 5 cu. yd., £1,350; 6 cu. yd., £1,500; and 7 cu. yd., £2,075.

In making an initial survey as to whether or not sufficient remunerative traffic was available over a sufficiently long period to justify the outlay, this would presuppose that the potential operator has adequate

knowledge of commercial vehicle costing. If this were not the ease it would be advisable for him to acquaint himself with the underlying principles by purchasing and perusing a copy of the recently published Tables of Operating Costs.
