MARPLES promised last week he would continue to do all he could to increase the safety of heavy goods vehicles, both for their occupants and for the public at large. The safety record of these vehicles had generally not been bad, he told M.P.s, but it was not as good as it had been.
When asked about setting a standard to give maximum protection to lorry crews against cabs collapsing under impact, the Minister said this would certainly not be overlooked.
