tion and other objectors have succeeded in their opposition to proposals by Lancaster City Council to 'create a pedestrian precinct in Penny Street, which is a service road for many shops.
Following a public inquiry and an inspector's report which drew attention to the need for tradesmen to. be able to receive and dispatch their goods, the Ministry of Transport has rejected the proposals. The T.R.T.A. understands the Council has been told that its scheme would not be acceptable unless proper provisions were made for goods vehicles.
