Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Commissioner heard the joint applications by Geo. Ewer and Co., Ltd., 'United Service Transport Co., Ltd., and Valiant Direct Coaches, Ltd., to take over the London-Yarmouth service operated by Mr. R. Neal (trading as Eclipse Coaches).

The applicants sought to discontinue it, provided that they were granted increased duplications on their own Yarmouth services, and that the fare stage at Southwold used by Eclipse Coaches be transferred to Geo. Ewer and Co., Ltd., on the latter's allthe-year-round Yarmouth service.

The applications were opposed by the Eastern Counties Omnibus Co., Ltd., Eastern National Omnibus Co., Ltd., and L.N.E. Railway Co. The main objection was to the suggested transfer of the Southwold fare stage to the Geo. Ewer concern. Hitherto, the Eclipse and Eastern Counties companies had been the only two operators between London and Southwold, and it was now proposed to divert Ewer's direct service to Yarmouth, so as to include the new fare stage.

This diversion would lengthen the route by about six miles, giving an extra annual mileage of 6,510, against which there would be an actual saving of the 144,170 miles operated annually by Eclipse Coaches and DOW to be surrendered.

"Eastern Counties" was the main objector, on the grounds that the Eclipse service was redundant, or, alternatively, that the company would suffer increased competition.

The Commissioner, in granting the application, held that the possible loss of tragic in the East End would be more than recompensed by the "Eastern Counties" gain in. West London.
