APPEALS by Mr. W. H. Pocock, of Newbury, Major W. H. Borwick, of Wantage, and Sir Hugh Nugent (Lambourne Racehorse Transport Service), Lambourne, against the decision of the South-Eastern Licensing Authority to grant Mr. B. J. S. Wasey, of Hermitage, a B licence for a horsebox, are allowed.

Actually, Mr. Wasey wished to acquire three horseboxes, but was granted only one, and was limited to the transport of cattle to shows within 25 miles of Hermitage railway station, and horses within a similar radius.

Mr. Wasey is to be permitted to continue to run his horsebox, but may not carry horses to race meetings within a 25-mile radius of Hermitage, other than to point-to-point meetings, and may not carry horses within the 25-mile radius for any person other than those living within four miles of Hermitage railway station, or who stable their animals in that district.

Written Evidence of Little Value. WHEN Mr. T. H. Butler, of WolverVV hampton, applied to the West Midland Deputy Licensing Authority for an additional 2-ton vehicle under an A licence, it was stated that, although he had been in business since 1930, he kept no books and could produce no figures. Nevertheless, the application was granted. On appeal by the G.W. Railway Co., however, Mr. Butler said that, day by day, he made a note of his expenses and gross earnings.

In its decision; the Tribunal points out that the letters submitted on Mr. Butler's behalf were of little value. The appeal is allowed,

Extra Tonnage on Transferring Vehicles.

THE appeal of the L.M.S. Railway Co. against a decision of the West Midland Licensing Authority to grant two extra vehicles to Beech Transport Co., Ltd., Coventry, is allowed, with £6 18s. 8d.. costs.

Briefly, the facts are that the company transferred two vehicles, aggregating 4 tons unladen weight, from its Coventry base to Bristol, where they were authorized by the Western Licensing Authority, and secured from the West Midland Authority permission to use two additional vehicles (6 tons) from Coventry. Beech Transport Co., Ltd., is to be allowed extra vehicles aggregating 4 tons at Coventry, in place of the machines transferred to Bristol. The Additional 2 tons are to be deleted.
