Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

By Chris Tindall MPS WERE TOLD last week that HGVs should be given more access to bus lanes in order to improve freight movements through congested urban environments. the movement of cars as well.

“We should look at an HGV as a freight bus,” says RHA policy director Jack Semple. “There isn’t an alternative, it is generally well loaded and it’s not a single occupancy vehicle. This is a case that is gaining some inluence in local government and we have had some success with that.” However, Nick Brown for the Motor Cycle Action Group told the Committee that motorbikes should be allowed to use bus lanes instead and that it has had success with this initiative in Bristol.

During the evidence session, Semple also described the M6 Toll road as “grossly under used” and that the government should allow lorries access onto the road for free when there is a major incident on the neighbouring M6.

The cross-party group of MPs was hearing evidence about ways to improve road and trafc management.
