By Kevin Swallow MAYOR OF LONDON Boris Johnson has launched a van exchange scheme backed by several van manufacturers ahead of changes to the London Low Emission Zone (LEZ) on 3 January 2012.

Citroën, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot and Volkswagen have all signed up, offering fnancial incentives to help van operators upgrade to new, greener vehicles.

“I am pleased to announce I have secured a hefty package of discounts with major van manufacturers, which will help Londoners trade-up their vehicles to new, cleaner models,” says the Mayor.

Ford is introducing a green scrappage scheme, worth up to £3,000, to help van owners move from non-compliant vans to new ones. The deal is open to owners of vans that are 10, or more, years old.

Citroën will offer up to £3,500 towards a new Citroën light CV to help operators; Mercedes-Benz has reintroduced its van swappage scheme, while Peugeot is offering cash-back payments of £500 on a new Bipper, £750 for a Partner, £1,500 for an Expert and £2,000 on Boxer.
