• Hauliers attempting to avoid the Dover ferry dispute by diverting to North Sea ports last weekend were having to bid for blackmarket tickets to find space on packed ships.
Hull-based North Sea Ferries says it has been running a booking system for its regular customers, but freight manager 'Allan Hull admits that agents allocated 15% of tickets may have been selling them to the highest bidder: "We are making every effort to take non'regulars where space allows, but we would want to discourage any hauliers from coming to Hull hoping to get space."
