Single-deck Optare on the way
• Leeds-based bodybuilder Optare plans to launch its new single-deck bus body this summer.
The low-floored vehicle will be built using the Daf SB220 underframe. "I am confident that this new vehicle will set new industry standards," says Daf Bus sales manager Bob McLeod. The rear-engined SB220 is fitted with the horizontallymounted 11.6-litre Daf LC engine, rated at 162kW (218hp). Partial engine encapsulation has helped keep drive-by noise levels down to 77dB(A).
Passengers aboard should enjoy a smooth ride thanks to the SB220's full air suspension which can be deflated to give a low entry-step height.
