• Mr John Peyton, the Minister for Transport Industries, hopes that forthcoming legislation will overcome the difficulties met by some education authorities who want fare paying passengers to travel on school buses.
He stated this in the Commons after Mr John Farr (Tory, Harborough) had complained that the practice of selling places on school buses to ordinary passengers was forbidden by the Traffic Commissioners.
This was nonsense, said Mr Farr, when half-empty school buses went trundling around the countryside with would-be fare paying passengers forbidden to enter them.
