Charger/h eater

ANEW constant-rate charger /heater, giving a constant current charge of 4 amps and supplying a heater unit to keep petrol and diesel engines at running temperatures, has been introduced by Caldwell Thermo Electrics Suited for commercial vehicles and powet plant Where an immediate start is needed, the unit has been tested in Canada where vehicles were kept running at — 30° F.

Both charger and heater can be operated independently and the equipment is fitted with an ammeter and a "state of charge" indicator operated by a simple pull-out switch. Suitable for both 12 and 24v batteries the constant rate of charge eliminates any damage to battery plates or loss of electrolyte.

The engine pre-heater consists of a vibration proof loop-rod magnesium oxide immerser fitted to the side of the engine and connected to the water circuit by flexible pipes.

Theheater is rated at 500 watts for normal outside temperatures and can switch to 1,000 watts for use under severe conditions.

Supply to the unit is 200/250v or 110v at 50 cycles.

Coupling conversion

-1ROM Scammell Lorries Ltd., come details of the Unilink, designed to provide an operator with a quick conversion from automatic to fifth-wheel coupling. The turntable, crossmember, brackets, and stop, form the basic kit but lead-on ramps, mudguard stays, air-pipe assemblies and electrical connections are also available where required. Two types of Unilink are available to provide the correct fifth-wheel height.

Industrial vacuum cleaner

IDEAL for cleaning coach interiors and dry workshop floors is an industrial vacuum cleaner from Colman Industrial. The Agrivac has a glass-fibre body enclosing a 1,200-watt suction unit developing 1.5 h.p. and is available for 105-250 volts AC or DC single-phase supply.

Mounted on a trolley, the cleaner is supplied with a 9 ft. length of 1.75 in. bore reinforced hose, a standard set of accessories, and 20 ft. of three-core cable.

The Agrivac can be converted into a powerful blowing unit by coupling the hose to the air outlet.

T UST introduced by Macnaught is a one

hand-operated, 16 oz. grease gun. It is designed for general everyday greasing in industrial fields where medium pressures of up to 6,000 p.s.i., are needed and with a special grease dispenser unit is marketed under the name Flexi-System. The dispenser fits standard 28 lb. grease kegs. Follower disc prevents contamination and ensures completed usage of the contents.

Pumping air-free grease into the gun is done in a few moments by pressing the Flexigun against the grease dispenser outlet. Designed to use No. 1 and No.2 penetration grease at 30°F and No. 3 at 50°F, the FlexiSystem has a maker's 12-month guarantee. PVC-coated nylon fabric

TNTRODUCED by the plastics division of

Winterbottom Products, is Topspan, a new pvc-coated nylon fabric. It has many applications in the commercial vehicle field, such as lorry tilts, and tarpaulins.

Topspan's advantages over other materials, claim the makers, are excellent adhesion between the coating and the woven nylon fabric, plus no weight increase when in contact with water.

Transposed

DESCRIPTIONS of a new Drum com-1-1 pressor/exhauster and one of the latest TO Series of blowers from W. C. Holmes were included in New Equipment on March 17 (page 80) and March 24 (page 39) respectively. Unfortunately, the illustrations were transposed, a photograph of the Drum unit appearing with the Holmes blower and vice versa.
