CONSIDERABLE cuts in loading time at the warehouses of BTR Industries Ltd. have been achieved by the introduction of a new type of materials handling equipment in the vehicle loading area.
A fully mobile and adjustable loading dock, marketed by L. Lipton Ltd., of Wooburn Green, Bucks, and called the Lipton Express Rapid Loader, is being used to expedite the loading of conveyor-belt rolls ranging in weight from 500 lb. to 2,650 lb.
Apart from speeding vehicle turnround, the Express is effecting an important saving in labour. The whole exercise, from warehouse to lorry, is being completed by one man operating the Rapid Loader.
Once the rolls, in an upright position, are rolled off the warehouse floor on to the mobile platform of the Rapid Loader, they are swiftly conveyed to the back of the lorry. The practice of getting goods from the warehouse on to the back of the vehicle and then having to haul by hand from there to the required position inside the vehicle is discontinued by the use of the Rapid Loader because its adjustable platform enables goods to be wheeled in their natural condition or driving by a truck direct to their destiny, palletized or otherwise.
Maximum savings are achieved by the fact that the platform is completely filled with a number of rolls of the same or different sizes.
The tilting platform of the Rapid Loader also serves as a footrest for stacking last items of cargo when it becomes impossible to stand on the loaded vehicle.
With specially designed low platform, an easy drive-up and drive-off is provided. The automatic bridging flap levels the lorry deck with the Rapid Loader platform. Full safety devices are standard on all models. There is a lever ratchet device to assist the operator in lowering the Rapid Loader easily.
