Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

wheelers meet the regulations which permit vehicles already plated to gross 20 tons and will twin-steer vehicles be reduced to a lower gross weight than for trailing-axle models?

ASix-wheelers designed for 20 tons gross

do not need to be plated before January 1 1968. At present only vehicles running at the increased weights introduced in 1964—such as 22 tons on six-wheelers—need to be plated.

Twin-steer six-wheelers are treated in exactly the same way as chassis fitted with two rear axles. Where a 7-ton four-wheeler is converted to six wheels this can also operate legally at 20 tons—or 22 tons provided this is the figure for which it is plated by the manufacturer or converter.
