AIt all depends on how the word -econo micis defined. British Railways are considering a shorter operating radius, particularly on heavily trafficked routes such as Birmingham/Sheffield. Transport of cars by rail for distances in excess of 130/150 miles could prove cheaper than road transport under favourable operational conditions.
