THEBritish Transport Commission now has about 36,750 road vehic1.-..s. apart from those run by British Railways. Some 2,600 road haulage undertakings have been acquired at a cost of £55,000,000, about 200 concerns subject to compulsory acquisition remain to be transferred in the next two months.

At the end of February, 9,300 applications for permits had been granted, 2,200 had been refused and 2,300 were still under consideration. Of the 17,265 applications received, 13,785 were valid.

This information was given by Sir Cyril Hurcomb, chairman of the B.T.C., at a meeting, last week, of the Manchester Statistical Society.
