FOR the 1931 season members of the Blackpool and District Motor Coach Owners Association have agreed upon standardized fares for the excursion trips which, from this particular centre, are and always have been extremely popular. Many attempts have been made in the past to prevent price-cutting between Blackpool owners. At first they were not very successful, but the benefits of co-operation have been better appreciated of late, and the local association is doing excellent work. This association, incidentally, is one of the initial members of the National Advisory Council of Independent Public Service Vehicle Owners Associations, which was recently constituted in London under the auspices of the Motor Hirers and Coach Services Association.

The secretary of the association tells us that the membership is now 100 per cent, of the operating concerns in the neighbourhood—a very satisfactory state of affairs.

The following is a list of the fares decided upon. It includes some trips which are not undertaken daily during the summer • The new schedule of fares is to be submitted to the Traffic Commissioners for the north-western area, and their approval has to be obtained. The fare for the Gretna Green trip is to be 2s. (id. more than it was for the summer season of 1930, but it is not proposed to make any change in the fares to Windermere, Southport or Morecambe. The Manchester and Liverpool excursions will cost 1s. more.

A feature of this schedule for 1931 is that a number of drives for which the fare was is. no longer exists. The excursion to Fleetwood, for example, for which the return fare used to be Is., will now cost is. 6d.

It is widerstood that the object in framing the new schedule has been td fix fares that are consistent with those charged on regular services operating on the respective routes, and, apart front this fact, the slightly higher fares, as compared with last year, are caused by increased maintenance costs, said to be largely due to extra insurance and licensing charges.

The association hopes for loyal unanimity between its members.
