Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Firms planning to appeal against new rates bills have less than a month before the cut-off date of 30 September, says the Confederation of British Industry.

Paris ban

• A scheme to cut congestion and speed traffic through Paris will be introduced on 11 September. The Axes Rouges (Red Routes) plan bans parking and stopping on 27km of main roads. There will be clearly defined exemptions for delivery vehicles.

Landfill leases

• NFC has signed a £21m contract with the Manchester Ship Canal Company for long leases for two landfill sites in Cheshire. The sites will be operated by NFC subsidiary Waste Management.

SeaCat snags • Hoverspeed's new SeaCat catamaran, which carries vehicles and passengers, has been taken out of service on the PortsmouthCherbourg crossing after just three weeks, because of technical problems.

Damp squib

• A suspected leak of dangerous chemicals from a Brain Haulage lorry at its depot in Castle Vale, Birmingham, turned out to be condensation seeping from the shrink wrap around the chemical drums. As a precaution, firemen wearing protective clothing and breathing apparatus unloaded the 80 2051it drums of formaldehyde — bound for the Middle East — and hosed them down.

Fuel security II The recent theft of 26,000 litres of diesel fuel, worth £10,500, from the premises of Shell distributor Cory Oil, of Raysbury Road, Staines, has prompted the Road Haulage Association to advise its members to check, and if necessary, tighten their fuel storage security.
