• UNITED PARCEL SERVICE RAWLINS United Parcel Service has appointed Mike Rawlins as UK sales and marketing director.
His responsibilities will include sales, customer service, marketing and telemarketing of cargo and express products.
Rawlins joined UPS from Emerlv Worldwide, where he had been regional general manager for the UK, the Middle East and Africa since 1982. Prior to that he held positions with a number of leading freight companies including AEI, Seaboard World Airlines and MAT Transport.
• LEYLAND DAF CABLE Roger Cable is joining Leyland Daf as its new finance director from the beginning of October; he moves from a similar position at AWD.
Cable had previously worked at Scammell, which he joined in 1982 as financial controller. Before this he spent 10 years in the finance operation of Austin Rover at Longbridge.
• TANKFREIGHT WALKER Two-and-a-half years after joining the bulk distribution company Tankfreight as a depot supervisor, Cliff Walker has been appointed to the new position of regional director for Scotland and Northern Ireland.
He is responsible for all bulk haulage operations, including dedicated petroleum distribution on behalf of Texaco and Gulf Oil, at Tankfreight's Leigh, Grangemouth, Port Dundas and Carrickfergus depots.
• SALLY FERRIES WILLIAMS Sally Ferries has promoted Brenda Williams from sales co-ordinator to sales office manager, after seven years' service at its headquarters.
• TIPHOOK MODULAR SYSTEMS PEARSON Walter Pearson, the former sales manager of Moores of Carnforth, has joined Tiphook Modular Systems in the newly created position of technical advisor.
His role will be to liaise with clients throughout the container design and construction process.
• POWER BODIES CLEWS Sandra Clews has been taken on as sales cOnsultant at Essex-based commercial vehicle bodybuilder Power Bodies.
• RED STAR HETREED Peter Hetreed is to head the Red Star express delivery service's international operation in his new position as international director.
His responsibilities will include management of a 25strong marketing and operational team. Initially he will concentrate on the Continental Europe and North American markets and will also be responsible for the selection and management of overseas partners.
• 1NHITE ARROW CONTRACT HIRE PICKESS White Arrow Contract HIre has taken on Simon Pickess as a sales consultant. He will be responsible for sales and customer support in the SouthEast, including Greater London and the Home Counties.
• PAPWORTH GROUP WATSON Phil Watson is the new manager of Papworth Group's engineering divisions, comprising vehicle body, engineering and electronics.
Watson joins Papworth from WH Allen, the Bedford-based engineering company, where he was engineering manager.
• BRS DE PENCIER/ROSS Theo de Pencier has become managing director (commercial services of BRS after five years' service with parent company NFC.
He joined from Grand Metropolitan where he was national brands director at Watney Mann and Truman Brewers, and progressed from sales and marketing director (parcels group) involved in the launch of Lynx, to development director of NFC's transport division 18 months ago.
Victor Ross, personnel director of BRS, is the new chairman of the Road Haulage Association's education and training committee.
He has worked in this field for nearly 20 years at NFC companies Scottish Road Services, Roadline UK, Tempco International and BRS.
He succeeds Oliver Johns on the committee.
• DATATRAK PEEL Automatic vehicle location specialist Datatrak has appointed Robert Peel as marketing manager as part of its expansion programme.
He is responsible for marketing the Datatrak vehicle monitoring and control system to the emergency services, distribution, security and service sectors.
• MOTORTRADE SYSTEMS VVISON Transport computer software house Motortrade Systems has appointed Chris Wilson as truck systems marketing manager at its site at Hilton, Derbyshire.
