• Peugeot Talbot has revealed details of its revised Express range which will be seen for the first time at the Motor Show in Birmingham.
Like its sister vehicle the Fiat Ducat° (CM 5-11 July), the facelifted Express is most readily recognised by its more modern front-end styling; though there have been minor detail changes throughout the van, most of the mechanicals are carried over unchanged.
Peugeot Talbot has also changed the badging of the range, so that the individual models are now identified by their gross vehicle weights rather than their payloads.
The Express van line-up now comprises the shortwheelbase 250 and 290, and the long-wheelbase high roof 310 and 350; there is a chassis-cab option on the 290, 310 and 350, and a 350 crewcab variant.
Engines from the Peugeot/ Citroen stable are carried over, and include a two-litre petrol, 1.9 and 2.5-litre naturally aspirated diesels, and the 2.5-litre turbo-diesel; a five-speed box (with improved linkage) is standard throughout.
The recently introduced four-wheel-drive version is retained, with the 290 4x4 coming with either blown or unblown 2.5-litre diesels, and in van or chassis-cab form.
A wider sliding side door and improved rustproofing are the most significant changes to the body panelling (apart from the new nose), while interior comfort levels are improved thanks to greater soundproofing and revised trim.
The new Expresses should go on sale in October, priced slightly higher than those for the superseded range. I=1 Citroen will be joining Fiat and Peugeot in showing the facelifted Sevel range at Birmingham. Five variants of the new C25 panel vans will be there, along with selected models from the C15 range, including the pickup derivative.
