VOLVO has a fine record of labour relations in Scotland. Only two of the 460 employees at the Irvine plant had left this year, Frank Campbell, group personnel manager, said in answer to a question.
Admittedly, the rate of unemployment in Irvine is 13 per cent but this would probably not have a great effect on turnover if the workers were unhappy. There is, I, understand, a high degree of flexibility on repetitive work — another clear sign of contentment.
