NEW BUS-LANE signs are being introduced by the Department of the Environment to replace earlier less distinctive types of bus-lane signing. The signs, which show a white bus on a blue background, have already been tried out in several towns.
In addition to these roadside signs, bus-lanes are also marked on the carriageway with a wide, continuous white line.
Where a bus lane is provided next to the left-hand kerb and in the same direction as the traffic flow, pedal cycles may use the lane. The signs for these lanes picture a cycle as well as a bus.
Pedal cycles are excluded from bus lanes against the direction of the traffic flow.
