The Post Office is adding ,five new routes to its postbus service in Scotland. This week four more seven-seater buses and a Land-Rover will be added to the existing fleet of 32 buses and four LandRovers.
Since the service began in 1972, post-buses have carried 60,000 passengers in rural areas of the Highlands and Islands and in the Borders. The mini buses, whose main job is to carry mail to the rural communities, are driven by the postmen themselves. They operate only in areas where normal bus services do not exist. .
