Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A special model introduced by Albion Motors Ltd. for truck-mixer applications will be featured by the concern at the Commercial Motor Show. A six-wheeler with doubledrive rear bogie, the model is the Reiver 129 and the designed gross weight is 20 tons.

Wheelbase of the 129 is 12ft 2in. and with the AEC AV.505 diesel the model becomes the most powerful in the Albion truck range. The AV.505 produces 151 bhp gross (BS AU 141) at 2,400 rpm and maximum torque is 384 lb.ft. at 1,300 rpm. The clutch and gearbox are also AEC designs, the clutch being a singleplate hydraulically operated 15.75in. diameter unit and the gearbox is the new 10-speed range-change constant mesh type already employed in other Leyland Motor Corporation models.

Albion hub-reduction rear axles are used at the rear in conjunction with a four-spring suspension system with linked rear ends for non-reactive characteristics. The drive to the bogie is taken through an Albion relay gearbox with lockable third differential which splits the drive to each axle.

The cab used on the new model is the all-steel Panoramic design and the standard tyre equipment is 10.00-20, 16-ply at the front axle and 9.00-20, 14-ply at the rear.

The Reiver 129 will be featured by Albion at the Commercial Motor Show and another six-wheeler to be there will have a new feature. This wit be a Super Reiver 20 6 x 4 tipper and the change will be in the use of the latest Leyland 401 engine which has been developed from the 0.400 and gives 138 bhp gross (BS AU141) at 2,600 rpm and 320 lb.ft. torque at 1,600 rpm. The rear bogie and suspension layout is the same as the Reiver 129 but the gearbox is a new Albion model which is the option to a five-speed gearbox in the model. The new box is a 10-speed splitter and while the unit has been developed from an earlier Albion unit, the splitter section has synchromesh engagement which allows the secondary change to be made by a pneumatic control through a trigger on the main speed-change lever.

While the Reiver 129 has a different brake system from that previously employed by Albion on six-wheelers-there are springbrake actuators at both rear axles to perform secondary and parking brake functions—the Super Reiver 20 continues with the old layout where the service brake is split with No. 1 and No. 3 axles on one circuit and No. 2 on the other. The mechanical handbrake to both rear axles serves also as an

auxiliary brake by having power assistance through the pressurizing of the secondary sides of triple-diaphragm chambers at the four rear brake units.

A third chassis change for Albion at the Show will be in respect of a Viking rearengined passenger chassis. The Show vehicle will differ from the existing range by having a Leyland Pneumocyclic gearbox in place of the Albion constant mesh unit. Apart from this the model is unchanged, the chassis being designed for 40/45-seat front-entrance bodywork and having a Leyland 0.400 diesel located vertically at the rear. The Show exhibit will have the optional five-speed Pneumocyclic gearbox but the four-speed version of the same unit can be supplied.
