• The Selby toll bridge was re-opened for road traffic on August 28, three weeks after its supports were damaged by a lighter.
Two single-deck buses were the first vehicles to cross the bridge in a test.
The Selby urban council is to press ahead with its efforts to gain a by-pass for the town and, although it approves plans for widening and strengthening the bridge, the council feels the bridge should be regarded as secondary to a town by-pass.
