•• • The pre-tax profits of Transport Develop• ment Group in the half-year to June 30. • 1968, were a record E2,882.977 compared with £2,387,483 in the first half of last year. Total income in the period was up from a little over £20m to £'25,762,000. The net profit after tax was £1,726,471, which is nearly £300,000 up on the 1967 result.

In his interim report, the chairman. Mr. P. S. Henman, states that traffic wag more plentiful and that the increase in haulage rates early in the year had largely enabled cost increases to be made good. He forecasts that the full benefit of the higher rates will show itself in the second half of the year.

Mr. Henman will be retiring as chairman next year and will be succeeded by Mr. W. Fraser, who will continue as managing di rector.
