tion, get experience. Now Commercial Motor has 'arranged with the British School of Motoring to meet this need by providing top-class instruction aimed at fitting drivers for the h.g.v. test.

This CM-13SM heavy goods vehicle driving course will be available throughout the country. And operators or drivers who apply for the course through booking forms to be published in this journal will get a special CM reduction in the fee. The first of these forms will appear in Commercial Motor next week, September 13.

Application may be made to any BSM branch in any of the following areas: London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Bristol, Norwich. All instructors are fully trained, and tuition will be on all types of vehicles, to be supplied by the applicant. In exceptional circumstances, BSM will supply a vehicle, for which there would be a surcharge.

This is the syllabus for the course, which may be spread over successive days or weeks if requested:— Hour 1: Introduction: driver's regulations; Highway Code, load security.

Controls: cab instruction.

Hour 2: Gear changing, including doubledeclutching.

Road positioning; cornering. Hour 3: Hazard approach.

Overtaking.

Lane discipline.

Hour 4: General drive: requirements of heavy goods vehicle driving test. Braking. Hour 5: Manoeuvring: parking, reversing. Hour 6: General drive: heavy traffic. Revision.

Bookings should be made on the special form which will be published next week in Commercial Motor, entitling the applicant to the special rate, i.e.: for a vehicle up to 3 tons, £7 13s.; for a vehicle over 3 tons, £8 5s. (The normal charges to a member of the public would be £9 and £9 15s. respectively.)

The RTTTB is considering an application for grant approval for the course. and the decision should be made known next week.
