Aannounced in The Commercial Motor last week, a multi-purpose transporter has been introduced by R. Murfitti Ltd., Outwell, Wisbech,

Cambs. Known as the Barfitt bulk transporter, the _vehicle is designed to handle granular materials in bulk and to be convertible quickly to normal load-carrying duties. Either mixed or divided loads can be handled.

The sole concessionnaires are 0. G. Barnard and Sons, Ltd.. Stowmarket, Suffolk. •

Telehoist S.L. 4 twin-ram tipping gear is fitted. When the body is tipped, the material „ carriedaccumulates in a trough at the tail of the body -containing an impeller auger. This in turn feeds the material into a powerful airstream for discharge.

Discharge to 80 ft.

The blower providing the airstream is mounted on the near side of the chassis near the gearbox; and IS powered by an auxiliary drive front the gearbox power take-off. It, is capable of elevating grain through hoses to a height of 80 ft. for discharge into overhead hoppers. The rates of discharge arc 15 tons per hour for grain and 40 tons per hour for cement.

An intake suction system is used for the bulk handling of loads such as grain or cement, operating at a rate of up to 12 tons per hour.

Internal partitions of aluminium alloy enable divided loads to be carried. The partitions are adjustable to suit the load requirements. For general work they can be removed to provide an unrestricted floor and packed into a 6-in. space.

The body, which is of 'all-aluminium construction, isbased on a framework of extruded sections, reinforced where necessary. The interior sheets are of 10 S.W.G. aluminium alloy and the external sheets 20 S.W.G. The floor consists of tongued-and-grooved alloy planks bolted to the framework and bedded with sealing compound.

The front and sides are rigid. An 18-in, double-swing tailboard is fitted at the rear, with pins at each corner. For normal tipping, the pins at the two bottom corners are withdrawn and the tailboard hinges at the top. If sacks are carried, the tailboard is dropped.

Two van-type doors are placed Above the tailboard, folding back on each side. Rubber sealing is provided throughout.

There are rope hooks on all four sides. A waterproof canvas tilt covers the top of the body, although for loads such as malt or cement a special alloy cover is available.

For the rapid loading of sacks, a Teleloader automatic hydraulic sack lifter is provided. The tie bar between the corner posts can be removed to give clear access over the tailboards.
