T A GLANCE
We like: Ultra-tough off-road capability, impressive ride comfort over severe terrain, familiar cab and Euro-5 driveline package.
We’re not sure: Phoenix is a niche machine with limited market appeal – and numbers. You’ll either need one, or you won’t. However, a handful of specialist UK operators could well find a home for it.
The bottom line: The off-road truck has finally come of age. Forget previous experiences of being jolted around a noisy Spartan cab – Phoenix provides cross-country comfort with a capital C. Tatra’s relationship with DAF could also ensure it becomes a more familiar sight in those specialist fleets that have to get a vital load to a remote off-road location, fast, no matter what’s in between.
