With dealers offering variable prices for all the vehicles we enquired about it proves the theory that its best to shop around. While it's tempting to go for the most expensive there's also a lot to be said for following your instinct when you think you've spotted a bargain.

The MAN, with its low mileage, sounds the most likely candidate on the surface, but do we really want to spend all that money? Likewise the Oaf, but with 200,000 miles on the clock we wonder whether its best years are behind it.

While it's always worth spending the extra on a vehicle in most cases, we've settled on the Mercedes, which at 27,500 comes in way below our budget. OK, it comes in brown and has plenty of miles on the clock, but this time function rules over fashion.
