Skeletal cranes are right for containers

• Blatchford Transport Equipment has launched a skeletal-trailer-mounted crane. Anticipating increased demand from container and swap body operators, Blatchford will offer a 30.5-tonne capacity system, to be followed by a 34-tonne system early next year. Both cranes are designed for one-man operation; the 34-tonner will allow containers to be stacked twohigh for loading and unloading.
The system is designed to handle 20, 30 or 40ft ISO containers but it can be adapted to
handle swap bodies, Caissemobiles, modular assemblies, construction materials and machinery.
Filatchford's demonstration
trailer is a conventional twinbeam design with ISO twistlock positions for single 30 and 40f1 containers or two 20ft containers. The chassis is fitted with ROR-Rockwell TE9000 axles and air suspension with raise/lower capability. The stabilised cranes are operated from the vehicle PTO or a diesel/hydraulic power pack.
A 24V electro-pneumatic remote control system allows a cycle time for removal or loading of less than five minutes for one man.
The trailer is on display at Freight Connection in London's Docklands this week and will be available for demonstration and evaluation.
