Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Having relaunched the EA as a Redline model, British Leyland is to transfer production of its EA vans from Adderley Park, Birmingham, to the Scottish plant at Bathgate.

Assembly facilities should be ready in about a month, and it is expected that pressings will be brought in for the van bodies. About 85 new jobs will be created, and trade union leaders are said to be hopeful of a build-up to 200.

Bathgate, which has been running for about 10 years, has previously made only trucks and tractive units. Whether other types of vans will follow the EA is not stated.

Mr Stan McKeown, convener of shop stewards, said the transfer had been opposed by unions in Birmingham until persuaded by a visit from the Bathgate men.
