• Barely 24 hours before the Government's "12" pay policy was announced British Road Services agreed to implement a 9 per cent wage deal accepted by the Association of Clerical, Technical and Supervisory Staffs, the TGWU's white collar section, whose 6000 members will get rises ranging between 35p and £2.59 per week.
The deal was negotiated despite opposition from the Transport Salaried Staffs Association which had opted to await the result of talks on an 11 per cent offer for 5000 staff at NCL and Freightliners.
