• A new distribution centre was opened for Shell-Mex and BP Ltd in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, yesterday by the company's managing director (marketing), Mr J. A. Riddell-Webster. There is 29,300 sq ft covered accommodation on the three-acre site which will serve the whole of Scotland. Shell will be using its own vehicles to service the Forth Clyde Valley; contractors' vehicles are to be used for the remainder of the country. Initially the company will be using eight 14-ton Leyland Boxers with skeletal frames in conjunction with 12 demountable boxvan bodies and three dropside platform bodies which were built by A. C. Penman Ltd, of Dumfries.
