TO PERMIT vehicle registration plates to be constructed of reflective material the Minister of Transport proposes to amend the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations, 1964.
Effect of the proposed amendment is first to make their use permissive; but where they are used, both the front and rear plate must be reflective.
The front plate must consist of black symbols on a white reflective background and the rear plate must have black symbols on a yellow reflective background. In all other respects the reflective plates must conform to existing requirements.
The reflective material must also conform to a British standard for which a draft has already been circulated by the BSI. Illumination of the rear plate at night will apply to both reflective and existing plates.
Draft amending regulations have been circulated to interested parties for their comments by October 31.
