FOR West German road transport operators this has been a week to remember—with, they say, regret. From the Chancellor came the announcement that the Federal German Ministry of Transport's new Regulations "will be law by the end of the year".

For Minister of Transport Herr Georg Leber it meant reassuring backing in public for his measures aimed at aiding the German economy, the railways and the cause of road safety.

"Worst is the fact that from July 1, 1970, there will be a 'temporary ban on certain bulk traffic'.

"In fact, this will put no less than 40 per cent of existing road goods traffic right off the roads of the Federal Republic."

And, he added:— "I cannot see how thiscan happen while this country is an EEC member. It is against all the principles of the Common Market. I mean, those that concern abusing the transport users' freedom of choice.
