IN Glasgow last week Thomas McGawn, I of Ayr, was successful in an application for conversion of 13 vehicles from Contract A to open A licence, with an amended normal user of "Goods for Pressed Steel Co. Ltd„ Linwood, and goods for Wilmot Breeden Ltd., mainly for Birmingham, Cheltenham, Oxford, London and Swindon ". The licence covers four rigids and nine articulated outfits, all replacing the comparable vehicles operated on contract for Pressed Steel, The original normal user would have covered 01. Britain rather than the areas ultimately approved. Mr. Alan Gordon, transport manager at Linwood for Pressed Steel, confirmed his company's wish that the licence should-be converted, but made it very clear that they were not abandoning contracts. Tuesday, November 10: W. Harrison and Sons (Carriers Preston) Ltd. against a decision of the North Western deputy L.A.; with British Railways Board and another responding; Birtish Railways Board against a decision of the North Western deputy L.A., with Northern Ireland Trailers Ltd. responding. involved. McKelvie and Co. then withdeew their objection.

British Railways asked that the operating area be reduced and the applicants agreed to this. Wilmot Breeden are suppliers to Pressed Steel and will be joint users of the MeGawn vehicles under the new arrangements.

At the same hearing J. and A. Smith of Maddiston Ltd. were granted an A licence covering five articulated coil carriers, as against an application for 10 coil carriers lodged originally. All remaining objectors withdrew from this application, which was dealt with in Chambers. Terms of the grant are in line with the conditions applied to previous steel-carrying applications in the Lanarkshire area. This is the final grant in the series of applications, covering carriage of steel products for ColvilleS Ltd., where the Scottish Licensing Authority imposed a ceiling of 33 additional specialized vehicles.
