Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NEkT year the State-owned Scottish bus group are to buy a total of 276 vehicles for their fleet. They will be of various sizes and will cost a total of approximately £1m. Some of this money will be spent in Scotland, where much of the coachwork will be done, but the chassis will all be of English manufacture.

Scottish Omnibuses will receive 60 of the new vehicles; W. Alexander and Sons, Ltd., 110; Western S.M.T. Co., Ltd., 66; Central S.M.T. Co., Ltd., 34 and Highland Omnibuses, Ltd., six.

An official of Scottish Omnibuses said that this order was in accordance with the group's normal replacement policy. One new feature so far as Scottish Omnibuses was concerned was the inclusion in their quota of 25 double-deckers with doors.

SHEFFIELD OFFICIALS' PLEA REJECTED BY WORKERS

(--1N Monday, Sheffield bus crews ‘-,decided to remain on unofficial strike as a protest against standing passengers in large capacity buses. At a meeting which lasted three hours, union officials pleaded with the workers to return.

They were asked to accept the_Sheffield Transport Department's compromise of a reduction from eight to five standing passengers, pending further consideration of the problem by the National Joint Industrial Council, which was meeting on Thursday (see page 439).

The men were warned that their attitude would imperil the outcome of that meeting.
