'TWO new Rapide electric fork-lift I trucks produced by. Lansing-Bagnall, Ltd., Basingstoke, operate at speeds of up to 14 m.p.h. and are equally suited to working outdoors or inside buildings. They are said to be the :fastest electric fork-lift trucks available, and because of this can compete directly with internalcombustion-engined models. The trucks, which have lifting capacities of 2,000 lb. and 3,000 lb., are on show at the Mechanical Handling Exhibition which Opened at Earls Court, London, last Tuesday. Both models ' can climb 1-in-5 gradients. The lifting rate is 50 ft. per minute for the 2,000-1b. truck and 33 ft. per minute for the larger model. Lansing-Bagnall have also introduced the Spacemaker 3300, 1 -ton reach truck which supplements the l-ton and 2-ton models in this range.

It is also an electric model, and can travel at 6 m.p.h. unladen or 44 m.p.h. with full load.

Also at Earls Court arc the first mechanical-handling appliances manufactured by J. E. Shay, Ltd., Basingstoke. These include two hand-propelled stackers, the Mastiff 750(M) with manually operated lifting mechanism -and the 750.E with electro-hydraulic lifting gear. Both stackers will lift 750 lb. to '5 ft.

AS soon as a Elm. expansion scheme has been completed at their plant at Rochester, Staffs, J. C. Bamford (Excavators), Ltd., will start the development of a • new range of earthmoving equipment which will supplement their existing production. Output is to be expanded from the present rate of 1,500 machines a year.
