£7 7s. advocate's fee, was imposed upon Albert Whitworth, Warrington Road, Rainhill, Lanes, haulier, at Prescot, Lanes, last week after he had been found guilty of . six offences of using a goods vehicle without a carrier's licence, and 14 of failing to comply with conditions attached to C licences on his vehicles.
Mr. B. Hudson, a Ministry of Transport examiner, told the court that after he had interviewed the general manager of Quickmix, Ltd., St. Helens, he obtained a number of conveyance notes and went to see Whitworth, who at first
n2h denied owning the vehicles. Later he said he had purchased Messrs. Smith and Lawlor and the vehicles.
Mr, B. Fraser Harrison, proSecuting. said that haulage was carried out 'under licences which were difficult to obtain. When a man carried goods he was not licensed to oonvey he was taking trade from people who observed the restrictions.
Whitworth, in a statement, admitted using the vehicles without a proper licence, and said that they had been brought into use as an emergency measure because Quickmix were so busy:
