I 1ST S.4 has been a failure. Of 160 I—I units (6,115 vehicles) offered for sale, only 19 units (436 vehicles) had been sold by Tuesday.

All tenders were rejected for 53 units (2,287 vehicles). No bids were received for 74 units (2,986 vehicles). No decision had been made on tenders for 14 units (406 vehicles).

The units sold are based at Purffeet, St. Helens, Ackworth, Ripon, Selby, Bedford, Moxley, Bath, Bratton, Larkfield, Shoreham, Cardiff, Gobowen, High Wycombe, Llanelly, Pembroke, Barton-on-Humber, and Boston and Sible fledingham.

List II, which will be pubffshed on May 25, will consist of some 823 vehicle-only units, comprising 1,330 vehicles. The closing date for tenders is 'June 29.

, List 9 has yielded the best results to date. Final figures for units without premises are: Sold, 365 units (671 vehicles); all tenders rejected, 59 units (105 vehicles); no bids, 1 unit (1 vehicle): total, 425 units (777 vehicles).

On Tuesday, still no decision had been reached on the disposal of the B.R.S. meat-transport system. which was included in list 9, but, as reported last week, the other three units with premises (78 vehicles) had been sold.

No results for list SC.3 were available this week. . Tenders closed on April 27.

21nt. LEAFLETS FOR ROADS

PAA TOTAL of 21m. leaflets is being sent out to road users by the Roads Campaign Council, urging them to ask their Parliamentary candidates whether they will press for an expenditure of 175m. a year for many years on new road construction.

. " We aim to bring to the notice of all candidates--and thus to the IVI.P.s of the next Government—the crisis which now exists on our roads," Mr. Hugo O'Hear. secretary of the council, stated this week. , SHEFFIELD TO SPEND 0.4m.

CANTAL schemes involving the expenditure of 13,470,000 from 1956-1962 have been put forward by Sheffield Transport Committee. A sum of 11,216000 is to be spent on bus replacement, £1,200,000 on buses to replace trams, 1164,000 on buses for new developments, 1490,000 on new garages and £400,000 on offices and works extensions.

MOVE TO END OIL RECORDS A LTHOUGH at. past conferences of 1-1. the Road Haulage Association, resolutions calling for the abolition of records of oil fuel used in road vehicles have been rejected, the executive committee have now decided to oppose the keeping of these records. A protest is to be lodged with the Customs and Excise authorities.
