COntrollers for Electric Vehicles.
At least one manufacturer and inquirer in this country is turning his efforts towards the complete construction of the electric vehicle ; others may be contemplating a similar step. To all such the Igranic controller is of interest. It is rnanui factured in two styles, the first comprising those which accomplish speed control by means of armag ture resistance and series-field commutation ; the second, those which are adapted for the commutation of batteries, as well as field windings, the batteries on the car being divided into two sections connected either in series or parallel relationship, depending upon the speed required. 'The latter appears to have advantage in the matter of economy, not possessed by the former, owing to the fact that it is unnecessary to insert resistances in the series when varying the control.
The whole of the mechanism is mounted in a light, but strong, steel frame. A particular feature of the design is that transitions of field and battery connections are made by bridging, and therefore without interruption of motor torque and attendant shock to the vehicle and its transmission mechanisms.
These accessories are manufactured at the Bedford works of the Igranic Electric Co., Ltd., the company's London address being 147, Queen Victoria Street, London.

necessitate a visit to a workshop, will be certain to be interested in the new model .of blow-lamp which is being introduced to the British market by Brown Bros., Ltd., Great Eastern Street, London, E.C. The principle of the lamp is, of course, of the kind with which we are all familiar. Its novelty lies in the fact that it is of a special shape, which facilitates its easy stowage. in the restricted space of an ordinary toolbox. It is 10,1 ins. highl 8 ins, across, and 2 ins. wide, and its capacity for either petrol or benzoline, which can be used alternately, is three-quarters of a pint. The nipple is kept automatically clean by means of a needle, which is part of the valve screw itself, and there is a rest above the burner carrying a soldering iron—a useful addition.
We have tested one of the first of these lamps to come to hand, and have found that it lights readily, and burns with a steady, powerful flame, even in very windy weather. It is substantially made, and altogether appears to be a tool which should meet with a very considerable demand. From the illustration which we reproduce below our readers will see that the new blow-lamp is neat and strong in appearance, and should therefore particularly appeal to both drivers and mechanics as a useful additional accessory for their tool kits.
